How long does a WordPress migration take, and what does it depend on?

Will my site go down during the migration, and how long does the switchover take?

In most cases, visitors won’t notice a thing. We do the work on a staging copy, and the domain switchover usually takes 15–30 minutes. If DNS propagation runs longer, full stabilization can take up to 24 hours, but the site is generally live the whole time – some visitors may briefly see the old version while others see the new one.

What happens to SEO after migration – will I lose rankings and traffic?

The key is preserving URLs or setting up proper redirects. As part of the migration, we prepare a 301 redirect map, typically covering 20–200 URLs depending on site size. We also double-check titles, headings, and core meta tags on key pages. After launch, we run an error and indexing check, usually within a 7–14 day window, to quickly catch any 404s or redirect issues.

Will you transfer all my content, images, forms, and analytics?

Yes, but we scope it out precisely. As standard, we migrate content and media and rebuild your page layouts. We typically implement 1–3 forms, and we can connect analytics and basic tracking as part of the migration. If you have integrations – CRM, bookings, newsletter – that usually adds 1–2 extra business days for setup and testing.

What access do you need, and how do you make sure nothing gets lost?

To start, we need access to your hosting or domain panel, plus admin access to your current site if available. Before any work begins, we create a backup, and we run the migration on a staging environment. Before launch, we run a test checklist – usually 20–30 checkpoints – covering menus, forms, mobile version, key pages, and basic speed checks. After launch, we keep a stabilization period, usually 7 days, to quickly fix any small issues that only show up once the site is live.
